Project

Kipsta Mutiny

Year

2023

Role

Motion design & 3D animation

Description

Filmed boots and waves animated in 3D. Pink and acid green connect Mutiny’s details with flowing surfaces, ending with the Decathlon / Kipsta signature.

Mutiny in motion.

Texture, laces and studs: the edit moves from close-up detail to the full silhouette, then brings both colourways together.

Storyboard

From soles to waves.

The storyboard supplied by Frédéric Dauges alternates product details with coloured fluid surfaces. Green and pink move from the soles into the fluid, before both boots come together in the frame.

Process

From set to scene.

Footage shot against blue and green screens is integrated into the animated compositions. This comparison shows the same shot before and after background removal.

Before — The same frame of the green boot: blue screen and support visible on set, then the isolated product.
Before
After — The same frame of the green boot: blue screen and support visible on set, then the isolated product.
After

Two colours, one cycle.

In the square version, the two boots take turns above a rippling platform. The rotation reveals the sole and studs, then returns to the boot’s profile.

3D signature

The logo emerges.

Two approaches were proposed for the signature: revealing the logo from the existing grey fluid, or merging two coloured fluids. The first was chosen, with the letters emerging from the surface.

From mesh to motion.

In this Cinema 4D preview, the wireframe remains visible as the surface transforms into a letter.

Finding the viewpoint.

These Cinema 4D viewport stills show the Kipsta logo on its own, in close-up and wider views. The final signature then brings Decathlon and Kipsta together.
