Description

An eye crosses a poster, trailing colour as day turns to night. For the Amiens festival’s 2024 edition, the animation carries this landscape through to the reveal of the line-up.

Supplied poster: yellow lettering, pink planet, moon, multicoloured eye and black-and-white water borders.

Starting with the poster.

Justine Figueiredo’s graphic identity already brings together sky, water, watchful eyes and bold lettering. Commissioned by DEZDO Films, I animated these elements for the festival, held in Amiens from 6 to 9 June 2024.

The vertical format retains the poster’s dense composition. Motion gives it a sequence: the setting appears, the eye travels through it, then the title contracts to make room for the line-up.

Timing & legibility

Reveal, then give time to read.

The revisions addressed legibility as much as motion: slowing the water at the edges, reducing flicker and bringing the information in earlier. The shift to night and the eye’s path remain visible while the dates and names are given time to be read.

The eye leaves the frame.

In June, the work continued with a standalone eye and its long trail of colour. Freed from the poster, it moves across a square frame.

The element was delivered with transparency and separate components so it could be layered over other images. The same motif becomes an independent graphic element.

A title of its own.

“L’œil de minuit” accompanies this second delivery. Yellow lettering and its shadow extend the poster’s visual language in an animated element separate from the eye. Title, character and setting can each be used independently.
