Description
From the forest to the store, six illustrated films explain the services offered by TERRES & EAUX. Silhouettes and layered landscapes share a different dominant colour in each story.
Highlights from the six films
Highlights from the six films: recycling, firearm fitting, shooting range, Cinématir, rug cleaning and customisation.
A colour for each service
Frédéric Dauges defines the series’ palettes. They evolve through the discussions: the shooting range, initially explored in midnight blue, moves to red and orange, while Customisation takes purple and royal blue. These July 2020 studies establish the colour families I use in the illustrations.
From greyscale to colour
Frédéric and I spend a day organising the ideas for all six films. I work out shapes and contrasts in black and white, then use CC Toner in After Effects to create the colour treatments. The silhouettes remain clear while foliage, light and distant hills give the scenes depth.
Adding texture to flat colour
In the early Recycling studies, grain and shafts of light connect the forest, store and factory. Dark foreground elements frame the action while lighter hills open up the landscape. These contrasts set up the film’s parallax movement.

Refining the storyboard
The setting also has to reflect the actual service. Feedback addresses specific details: fewer weapons on the wall, removing the rifle carried over the shoulder at the counter, and making the range console smaller. The four studies below retain details from before these revisions, which were approved separately before animation began.
From landscape to simulator
In Cinématir, the opening landscape becomes the image projected inside the range. Settings and results then appear on screen before the film returns to the forest. Moving between scenery and interface carries the explanation of the service.
